Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to common questions about steel beams, design, fabrication and installation.
Start with the right information.
For the fastest response, send drawings, measurements, the site postcode and your target programme.
How quickly can you provide a quotation?
Most straightforward enquiries can be reviewed within a few working days once we have drawings, beam schedules or clear measurements.
Do you supply and install RSJs?
Yes. We can survey, detail, fabricate, deliver and install RSJs and associated steelwork as part of a coordinated package.
Can you work from structural engineer drawings?
Yes. We regularly work from engineers’ drawings and calculations, resolving fabrication details and connections before manufacture.
Which areas do you cover?
We serve Greater London and the South East, including residential, commercial and industrial sites.
Do you handle both fabrication and installation?
Yes. Our end-to-end approach helps keep responsibility clear from drawings and workshop fabrication through delivery and site installation.
What information should I send for a quote?
Send structural drawings, measurements, the site postcode, required programme and any access or lifting constraints. Photos are useful too.
Do you offer steel delivery?
Yes. We coordinate delivery across London and the South East, planning vehicle access, unloading and lifting requirements with the site team in advance.
Can you work on occupied properties?
Yes, subject to a site survey and suitable access. We plan sequencing, lifting and protection measures to minimise disruption and maintain safe working areas.
Are steel beams fire protected?
Fire protection depends on the engineer’s and building-control specification. We can coordinate suitable systems such as intumescent coatings or fire-protection boards where required.
Do I need planning permission?
The steelwork itself does not determine planning permission, but the wider extension or alteration may require approval and Building Regulations compliance. Check with your architect or local authority.
Can you help with connection details?
Yes. We can develop fabrication-ready connection details from the structural engineer’s design, including plates, bolts, welds and practical erection requirements.
What finishes are available?
Available finishes include shop primer, galvanising and powder coating, subject to the project environment, appearance and specification requirements.
How is installation planned?
We review drawings, dimensions, access, lifting needs and the construction programme, then coordinate delivery, method statements and installation sequencing with the site team.
Do you handle temporary works?
Yes. We can fabricate and install temporary steelwork where it has been properly designed and specified, coordinating it with the permanent works and construction sequence.
